A nostalgic Sushmita Sen celebrates 28 years of her Miss Universe title – Times of India

Today marks 28 years of Sushmita Sen’s historic win of the Miss Universe title. On this day, the diva became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title competing against contestants from 77 countries all across the world.

On Saturday, Sushmita celebrated the special occasion by sharing a throwback picture of herself on Twitter. She gave a heartwarming caption to the picture, “Beautiful is a feeling. Happy 28 years of India winning Miss Universe for the very first time!! Time flies…Beauty remains!!”

For the unversed, in 1994, Sushmita Sen was crowned the 43rd Miss Universe at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines. Interestingly, that same year Aishwarya Rai Bachchan won the Miss World title.

The seasoned actress made India proud when she brought home the coveted Miss Universe title in 1994. However, the road ahead was a rough one. The actress recently opened up about the troubles she faced during the early stage of her career. While she enjoys huge popularity on social media, Sushmita has always raised her voice against the gender inequality she faced in the industry.

She marked her debut in films with ‘Dasta’ in 1996. In her career spanning decades, the actress has delivered hits like ‘Aankhen’, ‘Biwi No.1’, ‘Vaastu Shastra’ and ‘Main Hoon Na’ to name a few. She floored the audience with her performance in OTT debut ‘Aarya’.
