Wolverhampton Wanderers star Jose Sa has seen his name take centre stage in the headlines late on Friday night. Unfortunately for the shot-stopper, though, this has come for all the wrong reasons.
Sa, as expected, was back between the posts from the off this evening, as Wolves made the trip to St. James’ Park for a Premier League meeting with Newcastle United.
The visitors headed into proceedings with confidence no doubt high in the camp, after making it three wins from four courtesy of a 2-1 downing of midlands rivals Aston Villa last weekend.
When all was said and done on Tyneside on Friday, though, Wolves were brought firmly back down to earth.
A solitary goal – netted by January addition Chris Wood – proved all that was required to see Newcastle emerge from the Premier League’s weekend opener with all three points.
The game’s decisive moment was forthcoming just inside the closing 20 minutes of action at St. James’, when the aforementioned Wood dusted himself down after being felled by Jose Sa in the visitors’ penalty area, before slotting home from 12 yards in confident fashion:

Sa’s new benchmark
As alluded to above, in the process of costing his side dear in taking Wood out en route to the only goal of the evening on Friday, Wolves no.1 Jose Sa also managed to secure for himself an altogether unwanted piece of Premier League history.
As per statisticians Opta, Sa has now been responsible for giving away three penalties in the league over the course of the season to date.
And, unfortunately for the Portuguese, this marks the most ever totted up by a goalkeeper across a single Premier League campaign.
